Over the past week or two, a lot has happened. There have been a number of
conferences, a few announcements, and several delays.

Last week I attended the Microsoft Office Developers Conference in Redmond,
Washington. This conference hosted over 1000 people on the Microsoft campus.
With discussions ranging from Sharepoint to the new XML file formats, there was
a lot to learn for everyone there. While I won’t say that anyone appeared to be
“wow’ed” by the information being presented, most found it interesting.

In another part of the country the MIX conference was happening. This
conference in Las Vegas has been getting lots of buzz. Aimed at Web developers,
designers and business people, this conference did not leave out things that you
would be interested in as a developer. One of the biggest announcements was the
release of a “go-live” license for Atlas. This is the ASP.NET framework to allow
for AJAX-styled development. With the go-live license, you can now use Atlas in
your production applications.

Also announced at MIX was an update to Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 preview.
This will be made available. Finally, it is worth repeating the news that
everyone has already been talking about. In true Microsoft fashion, big products
are slipping. Windows Vista and Microsoft Office “12” are now sliding into 2007
and out of 2006. While delays are never considered great, they do often lead to
better software.

Until next week…

Brad!
