Microsoft has released a third beta of Internet Explorer 7. Internet Explorer
7 is finally getting some of the features that many people love about Firefox.
This includes tabs for opening multiple pages and more. I talk briefly about
some of the other features of the IE 7 beta at:

http://nl.internet.com/ct.html?rtr=on&s=1,2kvi,1,7rb4,g33g,jorm,i5r0

Robotics and electronics have always been around, but it seems they are
getting easier to tap into with our programs. I recently took some time to play
with a Phidgets kit that was given to me. This is a kit that contained servos
and a controller board. Hooking the servos together and attaching a
camera, I was able to create a nice little programmable device that can
tilt and turn a camera by connecting my Phidgets pieces to a USB port.

What is cooler about this project is that I can tap into a library downloaded
from Phidgets.com. This library and a little .NET code allows me to control the
direction my camera is pointing. All-in-all this was a very simple robotics
project that had very cool results.

I used servos and a controller board to move and turn the camera. In addition
to servos, there are other sensors and items you can get that can be controlled
via programming. These include temperature gauges, LCDs, and more.

We currently have people writing articles on a couple of these topics, so you
can look for them in the coming weeks on Codeguru. Additionally, Microsoft
recently released a Robotics SDK, which we also hope to cover in a few articles
on the site.

If you were ever interested in Robotics, it has never been easier to get
started. With products like those offered by Phidgets.com and other companies,
it is really easy to do some cool things quickly. Using .NET simply makes it
even cooler to do!

Until next week…

2. Building in J2EE Performance during the Development
Phase
    By Steven Haines –
When building a car,
is it premature to test the performance of your alternator before the car is
assembled and you try to start it? Obviously the answer is No, it.s not
premature. The same principle holds for application development.
