… Book Winners …

It is time to list the book winners from November. This time we have three
winners. The first two are:

Klaus Schalcher
John Z. Czopowik

If either of these are you, then you have 60 days to let me know whether you
want the CodeGuru Visual C++ Goodies book or Kate Gregory’s Visual C++ .NET Kick
Start. Our third winner is

MycroftH

who wins a copy of Code Complete, Second Edition published by Microsoft
Press.

… Christmas Lists …

Christmas is little more than 18 days away. As such, it is about time to
finish up your Christmas list. I’ve run across a few things that I’ve added to
my list. One item, I actually couldn’t wait for and went ahead and bought, the
others are on my list to Santa!

A Smart Watch is the gift that was on my list that I chose to go ahead and
buy. While there are half a dozen models on the market, I bought the new Fossil
watch. I now have the weather, local movie times, news, stock quotes, news,
quotes, a calendar, diversions, and more. All this is packed into my watch. By
the way, at the time I am writing this, Coca-Cola Enterprises is up a penny to
21.01 and Microsoft is unchanged at 27.33. I can also get messages from
people who have my IM address.

Pretty cool for a watch. Of course, this is a smart watch. and thus a pretty
robust computing device that uses Microsoft’s SPOT. I’ll talk more about SPOT
and this cool watch in an article in the very near future. By the way, SPOT
stands for Smart Personal Object Technology.

http://www.msndirect.com

A few of the other items on my list for Santa:

– A Tablet PC. The Toshiba Portigi. M205 with its
1400×1050 screen resolution is enough to make you take note. Viewed sideways,
you can look at two word pages side-by-side in crisp detail. With its
higher-than-average graphics memory, this is also a tablet that can support
games such as Unreal Tournament 2004.
http://nl.internet.com/ct.html?rtr=on&s=1,19ro,1,9nhi,bdgp,jorm,i5r0

– While I am a PC guy, you have to give credit to the people over at Apple
for the iPod. Add to that the DLO TransPod FM All-in-One Car
Solution
and you are set to use your iPod in hand or in the car.
The TransPod has an FM transmitter so you can play your iPod through your car
stereo! Lots of music and an easy way to take advantage of your car’s stereo
system to play it.
http://nl.internet.com/ct.html?rtr=on&s=1,19ro,1,douu,qjp,jorm,i5r0

– On the smaller side, I find that I now carry a USB thumb drive when I go to
important meetings and conferences. This gives me lots of space to swap files
with others. While I wouldn’t be able to take it on a plane, the
SwissMemory 512MB USB 2.0 Victorinox Swiss Army Pocket Knife
is cool. No pocket knife should be considered complete now unless
it has a USB drive along with its blades and scissors!
http://nl.internet.com/ct.html?rtr=on&s=1,19ro,1,4jyk,hf71,jorm,i5r0

If you are looking for just a small stocking stuff, you can find 32mg thumb
drives for under $10! The following is just one example:
http://nl.internet.com/ct.html?rtr=on&s=1,19ro,1,3ql7,11kg,jorm,i5r0

Have you seen some cool techie devices that would make a good gift for
yourself or for other developers? If so, send me a link to a site that shows it.
I’ll share some of the items mentioned over the next couple of weeks. In the
mean time, I need to make sure Santa is on this mail list for this newsletter so
he can see some of the items I’ve already listed!

Until next week!

Brad!
