In the technical world, two things are always going to abound – acronyms and new technical terms. As such, you need to always be ready for the newest terms being thrown around. Recent new terms include the over used “cloud computing” that related to prior terms such as “SOA”, “SaaS”, and “S+S”.
I came across an even newer term reading a blog entry at Force.com. It is somewhat ironic to run into the term “dirt bound” on a site from a company that does the opposite. Dirt bound is considered the opposite of something that is cloud based. Where as being “in the cloud” means to be on the internet, to be dirt bound means to not be on the internet. You can have dirt bound databases, you could have dirt bound services, or you could have various dirt bound systems.
This term seems to be just now making an appearance. It will be interesting to see how this term is used in the coming months and years.
Of course, dirt bound can also be used in regard to those who have recently died. That seems a bit ironic as well.
