A new survey by StackOverflow provides insights into what motivates developers. While most developers are not looking for jobs, most are open to hearing about opportunities that are available. According to a press release, the following are key things to consider when reviewing your development team:

More than half of developers believe they are underpaid. Coming in at 56.5 percent, most believe that more money would be justified. Also important to slightly more than half is the ability to work remotely. It was 53.3 percent of the respondents that indicated that having remote working options was a top priority. What was most interesting is that the 11.1% of full-time developers working fully remote were seen to have the highest job satisfaction.

The need for continued education was also highlighted from the survey. Nearly all developers have continued to self-teach themselves technology. This is no surprise considering that technology is constantly evolving and changing.
