Today Microsoft officially released Visual Studio 2015 and .NET 4.6, which are now available to download from the Microsoft site. While pre-releases have been available since last November, now you can obtain the final bits.

In addition to the expected versions of Visual Studio, Microsoft also included the release of Visual Studio Community. This is the full-featured edition of Visual Studio that is free to download and use with the restriction of it being used for non-enterprise development.

You can find a great deal of information on the update from Somasegar’s Blog post today. He lists information on many of the updates around debugging and diagnostics, code editing and refactoring, programming language updates including the release of C# 6 and Visual Basic 14, web, mobile, DevOps, agility, and more. You can also find a good write-up of the release by Darryl Taft on our eWeek site. Rather than repeat the two of them, you can click the links and see what they had to say.

Of course, our writers have been touching on the updates to Visual Studio, .NET, C# 6, and Visual Basic. You can expect a lot more going forward. If you have something interesting to contribute, feel free to email me and we’ll see what we can do to get it posted. (No marketing pieces please!)
