It is official. Support for Windows 98 and Windows Me will be ending. This includes Windows 98 Second Edition as well.
If you or your users are using these versions of Windows, then as of June 30th of this year, your operating system will not longer be supported. On that date, technical and public support will end along with any new security updates. You’ll still be able to find online documentation and help among third party web sites, but this will be unofficial support and may not address new bugs and vulnerabilities that may be found.
Microsoft recommends that you or your users upgrade to Windows XP. Of course, with Microsoft Vista due to come out the end of this year, you’d think that Microsoft would slide the expiration of the current Windows until its release.
