Big Data is a big buzz term of the day as is social media and social media integration for businesses. It has been predicted that big data analysis will impact what we know and what is happening, and a new software product called the Social Oracle is showing an example of how analyzing social media data can predict social behavior. Such predictions can potentially be used to help defuse or decrease violence and issues that are occurring.

Examples of where the Social Oracle software believes it could helped include the Ferguson (USA) issues that have recently occurred as well as the Egyptian uprising and more.  By analyzing millions of communications in social media, understanding and predictions can be made.

With social oracle decision makers can monitor events over a range of dates and locations revealing growth and behavior patterns.

This data can then be used to make business decisions as well as to identify, track, and provide the information to combat civil issues.

While Social Oracle is aimed at being a bit of a terrorist tool, it is a good example of how data that is publicly available can be used to gain new insights. The question for developers is simply, what data can you process to possibly make new insights into your business?
