Cloud computing and cloud services have become a very disruptive force for the enterprise, and more recently, the vendor landscape is experiencing the same symptoms. With so many companies getting into the cloud vendor landscape–over 2000 SaaS companies so far–it’s getting hard to keep up.


Vice President of the Gartner Group, David Mitchell Smith, discussed the situation, stating that “It’s true that most of the disruption caused by cloud computing relates to enterprise [operations] and IT. But it’s also been pretty disruptive to the vendor community as well.” Like many others in the industry, Smith reasons that a large shakeout will happen within the next two years, and a small number of cloud vendors will emerge that will cover both segments of the industry.
