Many of the largest IT companies which provide public cloud service to the masses, including Google, IBM and Oracle, are getting a clue from larger cloud services companies such as Amazon, and are joining the “big data” analytics bandwagon by using the open source Hadoop/MapReduce project.


In 2009, AWS released the first cloud-based Hadoop/MapReduce apps, called Elastic MapReduce Web service for EC2 and the Simple Storage Service (S3). Later Google was next to join the club when it announced the release of an experimental version of Mapper API, which was the initial component of the App Engine’s MapReduce toolkit. Now big data is becoming a top priority for Google, and several other industry players.
