This week Microsoft got good news from the FTC, who has been reviewing the potential purchase of Skype by the Redmond software giant. The FTC approved Microsoft’s purchase of Skype for $8.5 billion dollars, opening the door for Microsoft to integrate the technology into its operating systems.

Initially Microsoft plans to integrate Skype into Windows Phone 7, Windows 8, Microsoft Office and Xbox Live. Along with the purchase of Skype, Microsoft will inherit Skype’s 200 million users. Google had also been interested in purchasing the service, but only offered $4 billion.
