Microsoft Research recently announced its visual application debugging tool called Debugger Canvas. The debugger, which only works on Visual Studio 2010, visually displays functions as bubbles, sort of like a database diagram.

The Debugger Canvas project is not an official Microsoft release, and it still contains bugs itself, but at some point in the future it will likely be a part of Visual Studio. It was released by Microsoft Research as a prototype so other developers could test it out, provide feedback, and hopefully contribute to its eventual inclusion within Visual Studio.

Other Microsoft Research projects have become official Microsoft releases, including Xbox Kinect, which itself is growing into more than just a gaming tool.
