Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact 7 Released

The newest version of the Windows Embedded CE, Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact 7 (WEC 7) is a new componentized, real-time operating system. Windows Embedded Compact 7 is a new small footprint OS targeted towards enterprise and consumer type electronics such as barcode scanners, GPS devises, digital picture frames and other small devices. The new OS is designed to support up to 256 levels of thread priority, nested interrupts, and per-thread quantums with up to 256 cores support. And unlike other Microsoft OSs, the new Windows Embedded 7 source code is completely available to device developers to tweak as they see fit.
