Microsoft Unveils Their New Cloud App Model for Office and SharePoint

Being dubbed as “the most significant change to Microsoft Office and SharePoint in the last 15 years,” by Richard Riley, Microsoft’s Director of Office division. With this announcement Microsoft is betting that its installed base of Office some 1 billion users will provide the success of Apple’s App Store and the Google Play store in the consumer market into an Office App Store that plays the same role in the enterprise space. And unlike the apps created using VBA or Visual Basic for Applications where the app resides on the local install of Office, now apps created in the cloud app model can be attached to and run inside a user’s document and still reside on the Web server hosting the app. Read the full story here.
