The word of Microsoft comes to us from Brussels, Belgium where one of Microsoft developers spoke at this year’s FOSDEM conference. According to the source, Microsoft is taking, what they call a “meaningful look” at producing a Linux version of the world’s most popular office productivity suite for the open-source operating system. This puts us out to, what will presumably be, Office 2014. This sudden change in strategy, due to Linux’s increasing popularity on the desktop and thus its new found commercial viability in that environment. This, in addition to Microsoft’s reported plans of developing Office for the Android, another Linux based OS, means that much of the work to port the application to that platform, has already been accomplished.
