Microsoft Releases Entity Framework as Open-Sources

In an effort to increase transparency, Microsoft has released code for its Entity Framework database mapping tool via open source. Thanks to Microsoft new subsidiary, Microsoft Open Technologies, Microsoft has released their Entity Framwork under open source licensing. Entity Framework is a tool used for developing .Net applications and providing an object-relational mapping framework to work with relational data as domain-specific objects thus eliminating the need for most data access “plumbing” code, according to Microsoft. The Entity Framework source code has been released under the Apache 2.0 license, with the code repository being hosted on Microsoft’s CodePlex site for open source software enabling the open source community to easily engage and provide their feedback on the code check-ins, bug fixes, new feature development on a regular basis.
