Microsoft Plans to Open Source Their Datacenter Reference Architecture

Joining the ranks of Facebook and other industry leaders, Microsoft has made the decision to join the Open Compute Project which was originally launched back in 2011 and whos goals include, among other things, helping businesses save energy, money, and space. Microsoft has committed to contributing their server specifications which underlie the services such as Windows Azure, Office 365, Bing, Skype, etc. and are all deployed from their global datacentres.
