Microsoft this week announced that they are partnering with Joyent for the creation of a Windows version of Node.js, which will become available as a standalone executable to be run as node.exe. There has been no mention of dependencies on shell scripts, or installation procedures at this time.

By making the JavaScript library available on the server side, Microsoft hopes to help their plans for the Azure cloud services platform.
