In what the development community will consider a good move Microsoft announced today that the Kinect for Windows SDK will allow for third-party software developers to create new titles that can leverage the Kinect motion sensor while plugged directly into a Windows based PC. The new noncommercial starter-version SDK will provide developer and users with access to a wealth of Kinect system data including audio, system application-programming interfaces, and even direct control of the Kinect sensor itself. A commercial version of the developer kit will be released later this year.
