This week Nokia and Microsoft announced plans to give developers 25,000 new Lumia 800 smartphones running the Windows Phone OS. Microsoft hopes to entice up to 100,000 developers in the next eight months, which is how long Nokia will be giving the phones away.

Nokia said they plan to begin giving away the phones immediately. As the general Manager of Developer and Marketplace at Microsoft, Matt Bencke, put it, “There are literally trucks outside right now full of Windows Phones.” Not every developer will receive a phone obviously, but Microsoft said “committed developers” will be their prime recipients.
