TechCrunch using guesswork and analyst estimates are reporting that Microsoft has spent in almost a billion dollars on launching and developing Windows Phone 7. Microsoft won’t make any comment on the figure (no surprise there). Other people seem to think Microsoft will have to spend a lot more to overcome the many obstacles that stand before WP7 like their late start or lack of an app store or apps.
WP7 is much more important than say Windows Kin phones and it’s report that Microsoft spent a billion dollars to launch the failed Kin so it does seem quite plausible. We also know that Microsoft has put all their best and brightest on the Windows Phone 7 rollout. Thousands of high paid Softies for a two year plus project has got to add up. Will it all pay off, we’ll have to wait awhile to see…
