Introducing Roslyn, Microsoft’s Newest Compiler

Last week Microsoft announced the release of the tech preview of its Project Roslyn, which is the latest and greatest compiler from the Redmond company. Roslyn is a compiler of a different sort, and is known as a compiler-as-a-service.

Also known as an open compiler, Roslyn will enable the developer community to access and use both the data and C# code that it generates within Visual Basic. Roslyn CTP is installed as an extension to Visual Studio 2010 SP1, and includes an early preview of the APIs exposed by the C# and Visual Basic compilers.
