Hbase, the non-relational distributed database technology which runs over the Hadoop Distributed File System or HDFS. The idea is to use Apache HBase when you need random, realtime read/write access to your Big Data, states the project’s site. This project’s goal is the hosting of very large tables — billions of rows x millions of columns — atop clusters of commodity hardware. Apache Hbase, an open-source and distributed, non-relational database modeled after Google’s Bigtable. Just as Bigtable leverages the distributed data storage provided by the Google File System, Apache HBase delivers Bigtable-like capabilities, but on top of Hadoop and HDFS. Read the full story here.
