Building Mobile Apps: No Pocket PC Required!

If you have just a couple of minutes, you’ll find that now is the perfect time to start on your way to developing mobile applications based on what you already know. Just install the Standard (or higher) version of Visual Studio 2005, and you will be ready to start.

You’ll find that developing a PocketPC or Windows Mobile application is very much the same as building other applications with Visual Studio 2005. You have restrictions based on the device such as a smaller screen and some controls and functions that simply don’t make sense on the smaller device. Otherwise, if you’ve been developing in Visual Studio .NET, you already have all the knowledge you need to begin building your own mobile applications.

This video walks you quickly through the development of your first mobile application. It includes the creation of a form along with several controls. Even code is added. All this is done in only a couple of minutes!

If you are using Visual Studio .NET 2003, then you’ll still find this video to be useful. Unfortunately, Visual Studio .NET 2002 and Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition users will need to upgrade in order to do mobile development as easily as this.
