Box.net Gets Competition From Microsoft’s HP Partnership

Even as HP this week announced that it would be bundling links to the Box.net collaboration and storage services with some of its enterprise PCs, Microsoft was already working on its own deal with HP, which was announced today–a four year deal in which HP will sell Microsoft Office 365 cloud services to enterprise customers.

Microsoft Office 365 suite is a package of cloud-based services that includes SharePoint, Exchange and Lync. As part of the deal with Microsoft, HP will be the Office 365 host for some clients, called “private cloud” customers, while continuing to be a reseller for Microsoft’s version of the service.
