Hi there,
I am looking for a job, and in my recent interview I was asked:
What was the biggest problem you had in UI?
Discuss the UI problems of a previous project, how would you resolve them now?

Can anyone please help, how to answer this question..

Thanks,

I couldn't think of much..
I said the problem I had with UI was, I was working with JavaScript, and it is difficult to say if it would work same way in different browsers, as each browser has their own JavaScript engine..because somethings works in FF right but not in IE.
But I don't think, it was the right answer... He didn't say anything about it :-(

please help..

And what do you think a UI is? That'd be the first thing out of your mouth.

Now, I'll ask you...

It's tough to answer questions like these if you haven't had much UI experience.

For those with quite a bit of UI experience it's easy to put together a few answers, although it may not be the answers the interviewer was looking for.

I would start by answering with a couple of interesting UI things, and then ask if there were any areas the interviewer was looking for.

The interviewer possibly was just looking to see what you would come up with.

Here's a few things to discuss:
Layout
Resolution issues
Usability
UI testing
Custom controls
WPF stuff like databinding, templates, and so on
Coding in Win32, vs. MFC, vs. .Net, vs. WPF, vs. some other framework

If you haven't done any UI to speak of, I believe it's much better to say so rather than trying to wing it.

Well, "UI" by itself is a little vague. Who says a user interface has to be graphical (which is what most of the concepts Arjay listed apply to).

ViggyTrue, but most don't feel that a console window is a UI although strickly speaking it is. Remember it's okay in an interview to ask clarifying questions.

Yeppers! As a matter of fact, you should ask clarifying questions, if the question is a bit vague. Some interviewers expect you to ask, and if you don't, well... ;)
