c++ winapi dll question

i havent used dlls too much but i have a dll and able to use functions from it. i have a function that does this when i click on a menu item. now, is the dll function loaded into memory at startup like a normal function or is it loaded into memory at time of clicking on the menu item?

Run it in a debugger and it will tell you exactly at what point the DLL is loaded (at least in Visual Studio...)
