I'm drowning!!!
What I need is an 'example' book. Did any of you ever program for MS Excel in VBA? There's a book called 'Excel Hacks'. It gives clear instructions and steps to achieving objectives rather than telling you the why's and whereofs what your doing. Once you can achieve the objective, you can then figure out why its happening by referencing other books and playing with the code. Maybe this is not for everyone, but it worked fantastically for me.
The contents in the book did not 'talk VBA', they were written in english. For example, the contents would have a chapter called something like "Creating new forms and switching between them". No mention of instantiation or objects!
There were 100 what were called 'hacks' in the book, but they were essentially the bread and butter items of creating a program, and there was one chapter of about three pages for each item. There is only a VERY basic explanation about why things happend, and essentially the focus was on Step1:...Step2:....Step3....etc to getting the individual task to work.
Ok, so your not fully understanding 'why' the first time you do it, but you learn fast while creating effective programs, and the why part comes soon afterwards. This is what I need. If someone wants to write a similar book for C++/CLI I will pay very good money for it. I'm not joking. I have paid hundreds of euro so far on C++ books and am working through them, but they all try to 'teach me C++' so I can understand it. This is admirable, but essentially demoralizing when I have to come back to a forum when I can't get it working.
I want a book that gets it working in simple 'follow the steps', so I can come to a forum to ask 'why' rather than 'how'. Learning the 'how' before the 'why' is so much more fun.
SERIOUSLY, IF ANYONE KNOWS OF THIS BOOK FOR C++ OR WANTS TO WRITE ONE, I WILL PAY FOR IT. SOMEONE PLEASE WRITE THIS BOOK!
If you do, please let me know when its going to be available. All the books there at the moment dont do this. I guarantee you this....if you write it, it will sell.
I suggest basing the book on the 'Excel Hacks' book. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE.
