You probably have a virus. Even if you didn't install something new, it is possible the virus was dormant and recently activated. Some webpages also can exploit security flaws in browsers to download and install programs without your knowledge or consent. So, the first thing you should do is scan for a virus. Even if you don't think you have one, it still is possible and is the most likely reason.
You may also have a problem with a faulty device driver. That problem is so vague I can't really help you, but if you recently installed or upgraded a driver, you may want to check that out.
If you have recently edited your registry, you could have messed something up (it's really easy to do) that prevents your computer from working. Hopefully you have backed up your registry and can restore that.
That's all I can help you with because your problem, while common, could have any of these causes or possibly something else.

Chip creap comes to mind...
Had it on several PC's over the years....
If you are sure that you have done nothing on the system, (ie. Add or removed a device of any sort, including a extra hdd...) then open the system up and just give each plug and dimm a gental push, Unlock and reload the CPU (Reseat it)...
The first time i came across this sort of problem, (486 running Win95) the system whould simply reboot if you looked at it skew. A tap on the table, Dot matrix printer, or any funny movement set this thing off.. I spent 2 weeks fixing this one, replaced Power supply, Stiffy, CD drive etc, And just when i had completely stipped it to put it in a new case, I saw the CPU had crept up 3mm on one side. One or more pins was just making enough contact to let it run, but any sort of bump, well you get the picture...
Since then any system that has strange, unspecific errors and rebooting, I reseat all the chips, cards, dimms & cables.. (Fixed the problems 75% of the time) ...

Whenevery you get a blue screen always read the text in caps. It tells you exactly what the error is. It is not a virus, but a conflict of some sort. It could be hardware failure, driver conflict, or just some kernel software not liking something else.
What does the message in all caps read?

Maybe you should just do an system file check to restore all system files to proper running order. You will need your Windows disk for it.
sfc /scannow

Did you notice any unusal noises coming from the computer in the days prior to the BSOD?
If so, you may want to check your CPU fan, a hot CPU will blue screen a system and it is not that uncommon for a fan to play out.
The BSOD almost if not always has a file name on it to give a clue as to what the problem is. Recently I had a similar problem on my wifes PC which which turned out to be the wireless network card driver. It had worked fine for 2 years and then suddenly crapped out and would not load the desktop unless you were in safe mode. The blue screen showed lnk something .sys which I figured must be the linksys wireless card. Loaded new drivers and problem solved.

For antivirus and antispyware AVG 8.0 (http://www.grisoft.com/) is the way to go. You can't beat free! My company uses the commercial software, which is great as well. I love the network data library for pushing of updates and remote virus control.
