I have a program what works with a dongle in stead of a serial number

now i have read that i need xp pro or win2k to use the program but i have xp home and the program does not "see" the dongle

i can install xp pro
but i wood like to know why

what is the difference between xp home and pro when dealing with the parallel port

and can i fool the program in thinking that its on a xp pro machine (with a .dll or something)

thanks in advance colin

What does a dongle have to do with the parallel port?

To answer your question...the only differences between XP Pro and XP Home are network differences. I do not see as how this should affect your program.

the dongle connects to the parralel port with xp pro its works fine ,
with xp home the dongle is not recognized

if the difference is only network why does my program not work

the manufactuer of the program specifies that I need xp pro

the installation pdf is found here but in dutch https://mercator.imtech.nl/acad/boek_stabi/boek_history/installatie53.pdf

a picture of the dongle

the site is in dutch and I can't find english documentation

here are system requirements

What are the system requirements for StabiCAD?
Pentium 4 2,8 Ghz or higher
2Gb internal memory (max 4Gb)
Windows XP Pro English Edition or Windows Vista

It's localized automatically. I just saw the webpage in English. Your picture is at an odd angle, so it's hard to see what it might be.

All I can figure is that is has some Access Control feature that lets the dongle lock the port or something
