Pattern Classification Problem

This is basically a pattern classification problem and would involve Bayesian classifier techniques to solve it. I know this is a very open ended question - but any response would be appreciated.

I have a couple of images and in each image there may be at most 2 classes. For each image I need to design a classifier to seperate the object and background.

Any help to get started?
