I just wanted to know if anyone here is a software engineer as their profession. I am looking at colleges and just want to get a feel of a software engineer and what they do. I wanna know if its really what i wanna be for the rest of my life. If so, either reply or add me on msn what_are_you_drinking@hotmail.com
Thanks,

I just wanted to know if anyone here is a software engineer as their profession. Probably most of us.
I am looking at colleges and just want to get a feel of a software engineer Do you have a preference what part of software engineer you want to feel? Any gender preferences? :D
Seriously:
I am looking at colleges and just want to get a feel of a software engineer and what they do. Typically, software engineers are engineering software unless they change profession and become bookkeepers (I know one case).
I wanna know if its really what i wanna be for the rest of my life. I think that question you will have to answer yourself. Nobody is able to determine what you want to do do for the rest of your life. Being a software engineer requires self-discipline, productive and logical mind, and ability to communicate with others, without leaving any room for ambiguity.
I would start with improving writing skills. For example: "wanna" may not be understood by people who do not use English as primary language. :D

Technically, my background is not software engineering. I did not go to school for s/w engineering, and my first job out of college had nothing to do with s/w engineering (well, not directly anyway).

I think the OP has been scared off!
To the OP though, whatever your age, if you are anything like me you won't figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life until your mid-twenties, or even later, if at all.
Go with what you enjoy doing presently and see where that leads in future.
