Old School Compatibility Issue

Ok, Ive got a good one thatll bring some of you back a few years. I just copied a harddrive that contained Windows 95 B onto an 80 GB harddrive that I put in a system designed for Windows 98. What kinds of incompatibilities am I looking at?

Ive noticed that it wont run 256 colors, just 16, and the it doesnt recognize alot of the hardware I have installed (which the reason is blatantly obvious since the hardware is newer than the OS). Im just curious as to where the issues are. Im upgrading the system to 2000 soon but Im just interested in where the problems could lie with my current setup.

The only reason that you only have 16 colors is because it doesn't recognize the device driver for the video card. Check your device manager and you probably will find a lot of unrecognized hardware. Once you get those installed, everything should be fine.

Thats what I was thinking, its running in standard VGA right now. Also when I play SimTown, the video is extremely sluggish. But I believe thats because its running in 16 colors when it really needs to be in 256. but Ill update the drivers and see what it does! Now if only I had a floppy drive on my laptop... It seems like no new PC's come with floppies anymore. R.I.P. Floppy Drives

Most don't, but you can still buy some customized with them. But the better question is, "Why would you want to?"

Well if your working with older systems like this and you run into the dilemma of no USB support and you dont wanna waste an 800 MB CD for a few drivers that may or may not work its a good investment, lol.
