Cannot open mdi file on microsoft document imaging through IE

I open a .mdi file from the IE and it give me the option open or save with Microsoft Office Document Imaging. When I click on Open it got the error Unable to open file "C:\Document and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\4LI349MF\ [filename].mdi". Check file name and permissions. If I save the file and double click on it, the file can open on Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Anyone got ideas. Thanks.

Is it trying to open using Microsoft Office Document Imaging from the browser? Or is it trying to open with a different application?

By it I mean is IE trying to open the file with Microsoft Office Document Imaging or another application?
