About the position
As an Engineering manager, you will be responsible for developing engineers and delivering high quality software services for the client platform. This will include the creation of Engineering plans, assigning work to engineers, managing the development schedule, continuously improving the software delivery processes, helping to set technology and architectural direction, and reporting progress. In addition, you will be responsible for managing a team of 4-8 software engineers, including objectives and career growth.
Major responsibilities:
- Manage, schedule, and track engineering resources working on multiple engineering projects.
- Work with Lead Software Engineers to create engineer assignments and schedules.
- Work with Product Management and Quality Services to manage dependencies.
- Meet regularly with direct reports to optimize productivity, manage career growth, and establish objectives.
- Work with the Engineering management to contribute to the enhancement and enforcement of software engineering development processes and standards.
- Work with the Engineering management in interviewing and recruiting Client personnel.
- Help establish department guidelines for interviewing and hiring process and standards.
- Understand and review technical specifications and designs for assigned projects.
Essential skills/qualifications:
- 7+ years experience with application development life cycle, with hands-on skills in software engineering.
- 5+ years managing teams of software engineers in a demanding fast-paced environment.
- Experience in relevant Internet and software development technologies.
- Strong understanding of software engineering processes and methodologies, including RUP, Scrum, XP, Agile, and test-driven methodologies.
- Ability to motivate and empower people and facilitate a positive work environment.
- Multi-tasking, attention to detail, organization, decision-making, and self-administration skills.
- Interpersonal skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid knowledge of J2EE application servers, enterprise-grade databases, web servers, and working knowledge of SOA.
