Director of Software Development, Chesapeake, Va.


The Director of Software Development (DSD) will lead a group of Software Development Managers to design and deliver software products. They will work closely with developers, managers and product stakeholders to establish product requirements, implement and track development solutions and coordinate timelines. This position reports to the Senior Director of Software Development, and will be working closely with Client Services, Operations, and development staff on product requirements. The DSD is responsible for leading the Managers of Software Development to deliver quality systems on time and under budget. Outstanding leadership skills and a strong technical background are required to motivate and manage a talented team of engineers.



Essential Functions (Responsibilities):



General;



Take responsibility for on-time delivery of solutions



Clarify specifications of assigned projects as necessary



Provide leadership and mentoring for Software Development Managers and development staff



Communicate status of projects with upper management



Ability to handle several projects at once



Excellent organization skills



Ability to work harmoniously and effectively as part of a work team



Personnel;



Help coordinate staff resource for assigned projects



Responsible for performance reviews (development managers), career path guidance, training, staff development



Multitasking – juggling multiple projects. Must be organized.



Written and Verbal communications must be excellent.



Ability to cooperate cross multiple departments. Achieving consensus is important.



SDLC



Responsible for implementing software development methodologies to facilitate on-time/under budget completion of complex software development projects. Ensure timely delivery of high quality products.



Drive innovation and continuous improvement in methodology as well as technology to continuously increase productivity and quality.



Understanding of software development process (Agile)



Project Management



Analyze customer requests for feasibility, costs and effort.



Develop accurate project schedules and maintain progress reporting.



Responsible for all software development project management: task definition, assignment, estimation, and tracking.



Perform risk analysis, identify risk areas and develop alternate plans and/or risk mitigation measures.



Technology;



Windows, SQL server 2000/2005, ASP.NET, C# - must have good knowledge of and be able to effectively manage projects in these technologies.
