Does anybody know wheather the sound recorder from 98 will work with newer version of windows, or if it has changed at all? If I wanted to make a copy of sndrec.exe from 98 and disribute it with a program, is there a possibility of it working correctly with various operating systems?

Every version of windows ships sound recorder application with it, you should use the copy in System32/System folder instead of shipping it with your applicaion.

Thanks. But I use 98se, and its in the root directory not root dir/system32. So I guess I'd have to have two different procedures depending on the operating system.

If your applications target is only 98 then you dont need to worry, but if you are also targetting new windows versions like 2k, XP, 2k3, Vista etc. then you should not use 98 copy of sound recorder. Newer OS have it by name sndrec32.exe.

No, I was targeting multi operating systems. But I can check for the version and act accordingly. Thanks for your help.
It would still be interesting to see if 98's version would work tho...

I don't know why you would ever want to run sound recorder from 98 when you have the same application in XP. In fact, I don't know why you would want to run the sound recorder from XP either. There are so many freeware apps out there that are much better. Search Download.com (http://www.download.com) or Tucows (http://www.tucows.com).

Well I'm creating a make your own animation program. You will be able to draw your pictures and make your sound files, then string them together as an animation. I figured I would give the option to record your wav files for the animation. It will be like a flip book with sound.
