is there any way to fake a larger monitor size?

I dont think you can "fake" it... It may be possable to force windows to use other drivers for the display.

Try making windows use drivers for a large (1600x1200 or larger) default moniter, Your moniter should go into scrolling mode.

(As always please check my advice with manufacturers instuctions)
