problem opening html document as a text file

Hi,
I am trying to open a HTML file in a text so that I just get the contents without the tags. The html file just has text. I know it has something to do with the encoding but I am not able to figure out what exactly it is! Couls someone help me on this?

I am sort of confused. Are you trying to read the file or open it and decode it? Could you explain a little more clearly, please?
