OK here goes...

if this doesnt belong here please move it and whack me up side the head.

I use an all in one a/v codec...K-Lite...and have installed it. It uses the old media player classic as the viewer. the file association with all media types are made during the K-Lite install process and i havent changed them. .avi files are linked to media player classic and they show the icon for that relation. problem is...when an .avi file is clicked to execute every time i still get the dialog box asking what i want to use to open the .avi with. select the media player classic and put the check in the box to always use that to open .avi type files but it will not take . still every time i see the 'what do you want to use to open .avi files with.

any suggestions?

i have investigated into the reg some but i know not of how to go about changing the values so that the association will stay.

TIA

You need to set the file association for an AVI file.
From Windows Explorer, right-click on an AVI file, and select OPEN WITH -> CHOOSE PROGRAM. Pick the app that you want to always open AVI files, and click the box that says 'Always Open with this program'

Or you can right-click on the file and change the default opening program.
