Sending a shor message from an application to a mobile phone ?

Some of the communication tools, such as MSN, QQ, can send short messages
to a mobile phone if only the phone number is given.

and some kind of network, sorry, i forget the name, can send this kind of short
messages to any mobile phone all over the world.

it is so amazing, but how can these messages be sent freely ?
and how the messages are sent ?

I have a friend who has the same name with you! I knew him when he studies

for sending SMS, search for "SMS AT Command" at these boards and you'll find many threads addressging how to do that.

Most likely, I never went to China in the past :) and there are many Ejaz all around Pakistan.
