Mobile phone -as-> TV Remote : Possible ??

Hi,
I have seen Mobile Phones which have both
1. J2ME Support
2. An infrared port

Now, can I write a Java program that can send infrared signals to a TV, music system ???
Does the Nokia 6610i provide those interfaces ?

I am sure quite a lot of people would love it ....

doubt it. tvs normally use IR, phones use IrDA.. different kind of infrared comms. also, not all j2me devices can use the infrared stack on the phone. check what JSR compliance your phone has. i was sad my s700i sony doesnt have the JSR for to use bluetooth from java...
