Developing custom templated controls

I've only read the tutorials on MSDN about how to create new templated controls. I'm about to start developing a series of templated controls for various uses on a portal and am looking for more information, specifically on how the data binding is implemented (that's what i found most unclear about the MSDN articles and sample code).

Anyone know of any more articles anywhere?
