Basic question timing

Why do software implementers need to time software installation ??
Isn't it actually very unnecesary ?

By "time", if you mean duration, yes, the PM needs to be informed if the setup program will take an unusually long time to be installed on target machines. While deployment is in progress wokstations may be unusable for normal operational functions. That means a disruption of the customers normal business activity.

Similarly you need to "time" such things to take place during off peak business hours.
