Readonly ListCtrl and Horizontal Scrollbar

When I make my ListCtrl Readonly it freezes the horizontal scrollbar. Does anyone know how to gain control of the scrollbar and enable it so that I can see data that is not in the viewable area?

I'm using unmanaged C++ code in VS .Net.
