USB external hard-drive not recognized...

Well, just bought myself an 80 Gig hard-drive to back stuff up. When I connect the hard-drive to my computer it says that it does not recognize it. I've tried on a different computer (a friend's) if the thing would work and it did beautifully. Are there any new drivers that I should install in order to get my machine to interface with the hardware?

Both my friend's and mine operating systems are XP.

I got help from a friend with remote assistance. I turns out that the port was the problem. I plugged it into another one and it worked fine :) .
