CREATE VIEW shipview AS
SELECT s.Name, r.Name, g.Name, s.Max_Velocity, s.Capacitor, s.CPU, s.Grid, s.Turret, s.Launcher, s.Description, s.stHP, s.sHP, s.sEM, s.sEX, s.sKN, s.sTM, s.aHP, s.aEM, s.aEX, s.aKN, s.aTM, s.Max_Target_Rng, s.Max_Locked_Tgts, s.Scan_Res, s.LADAR, s.RADAR, s.Magnetometric, s.Gravimetric, s.Capacity
FROM
ships s, races r, ship_groups g
WHERE
r.ID=s.Race AND g.ID=s.Group;

Can someone tell me where this statement is dying? I'm sure it's something fundamental and embarassing that I'm missing...

Which version of MySQL you have?
The CREATE VIEW (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/create-view.html) statement was added in MySQL 5.0.1.
