What does "payment somewhat deferred" mean ?

Does this mean that you won't pay anyone to actually do the work until it's 100% completed which of course we all know can be as long as a piece of string is.

Maybe I'm just cynical, but what's to stop you from constantly moving the goalposts to prevent you having to pay the programmer anything ?

At least with 50% up front or whatever you're investing in a programmer's time and even if you don't pay the other 50% they're not left out of pocket if the whole project goes to the dogs.

Just my 2 cents.

Darwen.

I am lead design artist for Kaboom Marketing Media. I have talked with several developers about this project and pay somewhat deffered meaning that the developer would become partner in the project and get a cut of the profits indefinetly of the program, not just a one time fee. I have dealt with alot of programmers, most of them has been wonderful, but since I have posted on codeguru I have had nothing but money questions. I have worked for Kaboom without being paid for quite sometime, but now it is paying off with actually receivable cash. It seems that nobody is honest anymore. We have changed plans for now for the project, we will be needing programmers within the next 3 months for a similar project which I will tell you now we will be putting the full pay in an escrow account. Once the project is complete the developer will get paid.

Thanks!

It's not the fact that people aren't honest. It's the fact that people are worried about others not being honest.

There are far, far, far too many people on the net trying to con people out of their time or their money. You always have to be careful.

So, no offense intended. It's just a peculiar idea in any commercial environment to employ someone on a contract without some sort of retainer.

Also if you have the money in an account then why don't you pay the programmer at least 25% of the fee up front as is usual ? If you're going to pay the money anyway on completion what's the problem ?
