Lan Card Promiscous Mode setting

i have looked every where but i cannot find help on how to do this. I am using Visual C.net (MFC -SDI application), i need to what lib's are required and what functions are there, can any body point me to the right palce

By "promiscuous mode" do mean to see the trafic that comes specifically to your NIC or all the traffic that goes thru the netork? Are you using winsock?

Yes my task is to capture all packets on the current media and and filter them according to different characteristic such as error rate, highest traffic between top nodes.
its an assignment i have got for a new subject "Network design and managenet " AND No I am not *yet * using winsock, i just need the basics to get started.

Search on Google for "winpcap"... it is a really good (and free) library for such things...
