Hello!

Are there any RPG interested people alive? I've been thinking for some time to start on a new project, a codebase for a new kind of muds (atleast from what i know it's not been done before.. if anybody knows of it, please tell).. the new part would be how it is displayed, it would look similar to ADOM (www.adom.de) or MAngband (www.mangband.org) but with a persistent world beneath.. it's a bit hard to explain in a short post :) I'm not sure if it's posible to run it over telnet, it might need a client and it's own protocol.. preferably it would be coded in java/.net (both server/client). I've been coding for quite some time before, but not much java/.NET so if anyone feel like giving this a try i would be glad for all kind of help i could get. Just drop me an email or reply to this!

You know these posts are so old, and I'm not even sure if it's worth replying to them, but I have been trying to create a text based video game, much like these muds. Many years ago I created a game in QBASIC which used text characters for on-screen graphics, and it was pretty fun. Anyway I don't know a lot about MUDs, except that I used a MOO for school once, and supposedly that is similar to a MUD in some way. My strengths are that I have been coding in Java for the last three and a half years, and I have been learning C# for the last year (I'm not perfect in either, but I learn quickly, even new things that nobody knows about, and I know quite a lot already.) So if this is still open for discussion, then I would love to and enjoy helping you to create a new sort of MUD, with a persistent world. I will even do some research on MUDS :)

To be honest, I've been a MUDer for 4 years now. I've literally spent thousands of hours on it. That doesn't make me an expert on how it works, but it gives me a beter background into the matter what people like, what they don't like. I've been programming in Java for 2 years now, and in the past year I've been getting hit with learning a few new languages like the C languages, python, and php. I actually have been looking to build a MUD of my own for a while now but just not had the resources or enough knowledge of how to do so.

Most MUDs are telnet based and there are actual systems out there for memory management of the memory(ie. DIKU mud). www.mudconnector.com would be a good site for you to do some research, see what the competition is like, and see what brings in popularity and what doesn't. From what it seems like, most are C based languages. Though really it can be done with any language that can deal with telnet sessions efficiently.
